Wicked Lovely (bk 1-3) by Melissa Marr

This series was recommended to me by my mom. I loved them. I read all 3 books in 3 days! The cover art for all the books is absolutely beautiful. This is a series that you have to read in order. My mom didn't realize that and read them out of order and was kind of confused by the story line. These are the first books by Melissa Marr I have ever read. But I already plan on reading the 4th book in the series, "Radiant Shadows"- which is already out, and the 5th book, "Darkest Mercy"- which is coming out in 2011. If you like faeries, subtle romance, and drama these books are for you.

BK 1 "Wicked Lovely"- (synopsis from back cover)- Rule #3 Don't stare at invisible faeries. Rule #2 Don't speak to invisible faeries. Rule #1 Don't ever attract their attention. Aislin has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous they walk hidden in the mortal world. When the rules have kept her safe from them stop working, everything suddenly is on the line: her freedom, her best friend Seth: her life: everything.

My thoughts: Aislin has a crazy talent that very few humans have. She has a best friend Seth who is a really interesting character. Keenan is a faery who is very interested in Aislin. I didn't really like Keenan. There is an evil winter witch, come one what else could you ask for?! 4/5

Bk 2 "Ink Exchange"- (synopsis from back of book) 17 y.o. Leslie knows nothing of faeries or their shadowy power struggles. When she is attracted to an eerily beautiful tattoo, all she knows is that she has to have it, convinced it is a tangible symbol of changes she desperately craves for her own life. The tattoo does bring changes- not the kind that Leslie has dreamed of, but sinister, compelling changes that bind her to Irial, a dark and dangerous feary king fighting for the soul of his court. Slowly, Leslie is drawn deeper and deeper into the faery world, unable to resist its allures, and helpless to withstand its perils...

My thoughts: This was my favorite book out of the 3. It is darker and more intense. This is Leslie's story and Aislinn, Keenan, and Seth kind of take the background. The only part I was dissapointed in was the ending but hopefully that just means this story will pick up in a future book! I want to tell you all about it but at the same time think the reader should read this book to find out how much it rocks!! 5/5

Bk 3- "Fragile Eternity"- (synopsis from book) Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone- but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he's ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on new meaning though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen. Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified her-but that was before Keenan. He stole her mortality to make her a monarch, and now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever imagined.

My thoughts: I am not fond of Aislinn, because she is so blind sometimes, or Keenan because he is kind of a skeez, but I absolutely adore Seth. I thought learning more of Seth's perspective was very cool. I liked this book because the story flowed and kept my attention, but it just didn't have that special something the other ones did. 3/5

SoulTaker by Bryan Smith

Recently at Big Lots I found this book tucked in the back of a display. I had never heard of the author but the book looked & sounded interesting enough to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised.

Story (from back of book): Beautiful, sexy, inhuman. Jake McAllister knows that his brother Trey's new girlfriend is a bad influence, but he doesn't know what Myra's really after- Trey's soul. Trey is just one of her new playthings, a pawn in her centuries long game. One by one, Myra has seduced and enslaved the young men of the town. The women have joined her cult as eager priestesses, lured by promises of sex and power. But Myra's unholy plan is almost complete. Can one man hope to battle such seductive evil? Will he be able to resist the.... Soultaker.

My thoughts: This book is darker than what I usually read. Be forewarned that parts of this book are not for the squeamish. I was hooked by page 2. Myra is a naughty girl. Jake is battling his own demons with alcoholism and child hood issues. Trey was they only character I didn't really like. He seemed kind of wussy. This book was a fast roller coaster of a ride! I highly recommend. 4/5 stars. Bryan Smith is an author I will be watching out for.

Nocturne City Series by Caitlin Kittredge

I have read books by Caitlin Kittredge before, so I kind of had an idea of what to expect with this series. For some reason to me the first book in Caitlin's series is always the best. I thought so with this series and with her Black London series.

Bk 1, Night Life: You are introduced to Luna who is an insoli werewolf- which means without a pack. She is also a cop. She is tough and witty. Her cousin, Sunny- a witch is her roommate. She is investigating murders and meets a guy named Dmitri who is also a were. This book was definitely my favorite of the series. Luna is kick ass and Dmitri is just the kind of rough edged guy Luna needs. 4.5/5

Bk 2, Pure Blood: A good story but not my favorite. Luna is now a detective. Dmitri is settling issues with his elders. Luna is investigating murders caused by rival witch clans. I was into Luna missing Dmitiri and wondering how that would play out with them. Sunny is not in this one as much and I missed her character. 4/5

Bk 3, Second Skin: And this is the book in which the series start to slowly descend downhill. I felt like this book didn't resolve any conflicts and just made new ones. Dmitri and Luna are not getting along, someone is killing elder were pack members. Luna meets Lucas who is in a class all on his own. 3/5

Bk 4, Witch Craft: By far my least favorite in the series. Luna is now running her own paranormal division. I just felt that everything that could have been done already in this series was. There was not really any new element added to this book. I really struggled to finish this one. 2/5

Overall Thoughts: Fire whoever does the cover art. Seriously. The first book looks like a drawn girl they tried to make look real- not attractive. The second book cover was okay, but the title had nothing to do with this book. The third book cover has Luna in heels and a lingerie corset thing, when she is more of a jeans gal, and the title is completely random. The 4th book has Luna in skimpy clothes holding onto rope- okay, what?! Caitlin must have a thing for the leading gals being cops (or private investigators). I hope that the next bk in the series isn't as predictable. *sigh*

The Shadowdwellers Series by Jacquelyn Frank

I really enjoy Jacquelyn Frank's writing style. She always manages to create unique worlds that I thoroughly enjoy!

Bk 1 "Ecstasy": I am not sure what was going on here. While I did enjoy the book I felt like I was overwhelmed with information. This was by far my least favorite book of the series. A shadowdweller is someone who lives in darkness and can not be in the light. There are different dimensions that a shadowdweller can go- there are just simply too many to name here and they get rather confusing. Trace is the main man in this book and Ashla is the girl. I liked them both okay but did not love them. Trace is a shadowdweller and Ashla is someone with a healing ability. I think what turned me off the most about this book is that the history of the shadowdwellers society became overwhelming. 3/5

Bk 2 "Rapture": This book was way better than the first in the series. Magnus is Trace's father. Dae is his disturbed but gutsy handmaiden, who has had a hard life to say the least. What I did find weird was that is the first book Magnus is portrayed as the older, wiser, father. Then in this one he was supposed to be the virile lover...hmmm. Once I got over my hangups about that the storyline was really good. Honestly I thought I wouldn't like this book at all but it was very good. 4/5

Bk 3 "Pleasure": I really enjoyed this book but I was disappointed all at the same time. Instead of just one main love story this book condenses two. Sagan is a loner priest who has been captured and then wakes up to be in the Alaskan wilderness in Valera's home. I thought Sagan and Valera got skimped with their story. They are hardly in the book at all. Instead you get Guin and Malaya's story which you knew was coming way back in bk 1. Malaya is a chancellor and Guin is her body guard. I liked Guin and Malaya, even though for someone who is supposed to be so smart Malaya acts pretty dumb. I liked the book but these two stories should have been made into two separate books. 4/5.

Sisters of the Moon Series by Yasmine Galenorn

This is a review of books 1-5. I have never read any other books by Yasmine Galenorn. These stories are about 3 sisters.

The background info for BK 1, "Witchling" is- We're the D'Artigo sisters: half-human, half-fae, we're savvy- and sexy-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency (OIA). But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Delilah shape shifts into a tabby cant whenever she's stressed. Menolly's a vampire who's still trying to get the hang of being undead. And me? I'm Camille- a wicked-good witch. Except my magic's as unpredictable as the weather, which my enemies are about to find out the hard way...

Story: Camille is the oldest sister. Her and her sisters are trying to keep the bad guys from taking control of both earth and otherworld. They must find portal seals to keep the main bad guys- Shadow Wing and other Demons.

My thoughts: Camille is not my favorite sister, she is kind of arrogant and annoying. Camille runs a bookstore as a cover job on earth. The main problem I had with this book is that the story is bombarded with unneeded information. I know it is necessary to know the story history but in this case it was almost too much. I liked the book but didn't love it. 3/5

Bk 2, "Changeling": Delilah is the middle sister but is treated like the baby. She is a werecat but shifts into a tabby. Her cover job is running a private investigator office. She takes a job for another werepuma and the sparks fly. Her and her sisters are still fighting Shadow Wing. Of all the sister's Delilah is my favorite. Delilah's love life gets tricky in this story she likes both the were-puma and an FBH (full blooded human) named Chase.

My thoughts: This book is much better than the first one. Delilah is a force to be reckoned with. I gave it a 4/5.

BK 3, "Darkling"- Menolly runs a bar and she is a vampire. She is a tough, scary (but in a good way) chick. She is facing demons of her own. She attends VA, vampire anonymous, meetings. She has to face the wicked vampire who turned her.

My thoughts: Menolly is strong but you do get to see her vulnerable side. She is dealing with a lot of personal issues in this book. Her love life is complicated, but I wanted more in that area out of this story. All in all not a bad story. 4/5.

Bk 4, "Dragon Wytch"- This story goes back to Camille's side. Her love life is crazy, she has 3 main men. A Demon, a svartan, and a dragon. The girls are still fighting bad guys.

My thoughts: I was disappointed in this book. Maybe it's because I don't really like Camille, or maybe it's because judging by the title I thought, Smoky, the dragon would play a bigger role in the story than he did. Also the cover is disturbing. Camille is supposed to be hot and while her body is banging, her face looks like a drag queen (and not a hot one). 3/5

Bk 5, "Night Huntress"- Throughout the story Delilah and Chase, the FBH, have become very close. But Chase screws up majorly. Delilah is trying to figure out what she wants in life and love. She also finds out some surprising info about her past.

My thoughts: Really liked this book. Delilah is growing up and you get to see her evolve and not seem so naive. 4/5.

The 6th bk is Demon Mistress and it follows up with Menolly's story. I liked this series well enough to definitely put this book on my to-read, wish list.

Street Magic by Caitlin Kittredge

This is the first book I have ever read by Caitlin Kittredge. This is book 1 of the Black London series. I liked it enough to run out and by the second book in the series "Demon Bound".

Synopsis (from back of book): Her name is Pete Caldecott. She was just sixteen when she met Jack Winter, a gorgeous, larger-than-life mage who thrilled her with his witchcraft. Then a spirit Jack summoned killed him before Pete's eyes-or so she thought. Now a detective, Pete is investigating the kidnapping of a young girl from the streets of London...a case that brings her face to face with Jack.

Strung out on heroin, Jack is a shadow of his former self. But he's able to tell Pete exactly where Bridget's kidnappers are hiding: in the supernatural shadow-world of the fey. Pete follows Jack into the fey underworld, where she hopes to discover the truth about what happened to Bridget-and what happened to Jack on that dark day so long ago...

My thoughts: I am not sure what the cover of the book is made out of but it is really soft. The cover art is very nicely done. I am not sure but I really hated Pete's name, which is also short for something else that is even worse. Yuck. Jack is a jerk. Pete and Jack fight throughout the entire book. I thought this book would be more of a romance than it was. Also there is an obscene amount of cursing in this book that could have been toned down a little. I liked that Pete was an investigator, usually it is they guy that has that job role. That being said once I started reading this book I read it straight through. I gave this book a 4/5.

Moon Fever

This is a collection of 4 short stories. I usually don't like short stories but every once in a while they are all I have time for. The cover of this book is generic and could have been made to be more appealing.

Synopsis (from back of book):

1. In "Tempting Fate" by Susan Sizemore, Desiree dreams she spent a passion-filled night with sexy rock star Jon Coyote...and that he told her he was a vampire. But when Desiree discovers she is mysteriously pregnant, her erotic fantasy takes a strangely realistic turn.

My thoughts: Overall I rated this book a 2.5/5. I liked half the stories so I gave it half the score.

1. This story was descent but a little melodramatic. Ms. Sizemore tried to incorporate comedy into this story and it just didn't work for me. At the end of the story I just felt short changed.

2. I didn't think I would like this story at all but it was actually my favorite. Maggie Shayne wrote a short-to-the-point paranormal romance mystery.

3. This story starts off very fast paced and stays that way through the entire story. This was my second favorite story. It kept me guessing and interested. Dylan is definitely my kind of man.

4. Out of all the stories, this one was my least favorite. Honestly, I couldn't even get into this story enough to finish it.

Veil of Shadows by Jennifer Armintrout

This is book 3 of the Lightworld/Darkworld series. I must be honest, out of all 3 books in the series this one was my least favorite.

Synopsis (from back of the book): With the Immortal Denizens of the subterranean Lightworld & Darkworld societies locked in battle, the heiress the the Faery throne is exiled to the human realm above. Accompanied to the upworld by her mother's most trusted advisor, Cerridwen is bound for Eire- and the last fae stronghold on earth. But even this fabled colony is no true haven.

In the absence of the true Fae monarch, the formidable Queene Danae established herself as a ruler-and she does not wish to relinquish her power, especially over the devout Humans who live among the Fae servants.

Torn between her own beliefs and the ideals her mother died for, Cerridwen searches for clues to her destiny- is it on Earth among the Humans, or beyond the ethereal portal, in the immortals' ancestral home? Neither path can avert bloodshed- and the choice may not be hers to make.

My thoughts: It took me over a month to read this book. It was just really slow in the beginning. Luckily the storyline does pick up but not until halfway through the book. The cover of the book is cool. Danae is a wicked, mean, and very bad girl. I really liked her as the enemy. But mainly the story is a sad attempt at a love story. Overall I give it a 2/5.

Child of Darkness by Jennifer Armintrout

This is the 2nd book in the Lightworld/Darkworld series. This book was really hard to rate. I liked it occasionally and hated it the rest of the time. Love it or hate it, I couldn't put it down.

Synopsis (from back of book): Once upon a time yet to come, creatures of myth and fairy tale gained entry to the human realm- and were expelled with extreme prejudice. Banished underground, they carved out two kingdoms: the Lightworld of the fae and their kin, and the Darkworld of demons, werewolves and their ilk. But the boundaries between these worlds and the upworld are about to be redrawn...in blood.

At a Lightworld royal gala, Queen Ayla announces the betrothal of her daughter, Cerridwen, to a high-ranking councilor. Though strategically brilliant, the engagement comes as a shock- to Cerridwen especially. Infuriated by er mother's high-handedness, ignorant of her own true origins, she flees the court- leaving herself vulnerable to those who would see the Lightworld destroyed.

Amid burgeoning unrest, desperate desires become divided loyalties and terrifying mercenaries lurk in the shadowy space between rebellion and anarchy.

My thoughts: This book was much darker than the first in the series. I spent a lot of time hating Ayla, it was like she is a completely different person in this book, and feeling sorry for Malachi. I would say this book have very little romance. This book was like a train wreck I just couldn't turn away from. Also the cover was weird. The only correlation I could make between the seahorse is that in the book there are horrible creatures called water horses. Hm... mm... just for being able to make it through this book I gave it a 3/5.

This is the first novel of Ms. Armintrout's Lightworld/Darkworld series. I really liked the unique story in this book. Goodbye Vampires and wolves to taking center stage. Hello Death Angel's and faeries.

My thoughts: I enjoyed this book. It was different from your typical romance. Ayala is strong, independent, and completely kick ass! Malachi is a guy you just can't help but like. I gave this book a 5/5! I loved the fae creatures and their magical world, along with the inside look at their corrupted fae court.

I also loved the cover art for this book!

Shifting Love by Constance O'Day-Flannery

This book is really good. It is a lot different than I thought it would be. The main gal, Maggie, is the one in the story that is a shifter. She is also coerced by a secret society to help men open their hearts to love, so that they can love the one they are supposed to be with.

Synopsis (from back of book): Maggie O'Shea knows that because of her dark past, there's no place for love in her life. She owns a successful store in Philadelphia, where she uses her special gifts to help the people she meets. Though this doesn't fulfill her , she is content. Most of the time.

Entrepreneur Julian McDonald runs an empire. He's rich, cynical, bored- and not interested in relationships. He was in love, once, but since her death, there's been no space in his heart for anyone else.

Maggie knows as soon as she meets Julian that she could fall in love with him. But a secret society devoted to bringing the world back into balance has a mysterious agenda for Julian- and doesn't care about the heart's wish of a vulnerable shapeshifter...

My thoughts: Maggie and Julian are both love able characters. This book had some good surprises coming that you don't expect. I give this book a 4/5.

HeartMate by Robin D. Owens

This is a sci-fi/ paranormal romance. While I absolutely hated the cheesy cover, the story was really good. Robin Owens wrote a unique, beyond the norm love story. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, Heart Thief. These books are part of the Celta's HeartMate series.

Synopsis (from back of book): All his life, Rand T'Ash has looked forward to meeting his HeartMate, with whome he could begin a family. Once a street tough but now a respected nobleman and artisan, he has crafted the perfect HeartGift, which, in the custom of the psychically-gifted population of the planet Celta, is the way a man finds-and attracts-his wife.

Danith Mallow is irresistibly drawn to the magnificent necklace on display at T'Ash's shop, but she is wary of its creator, despite an overpowering attraction. In a world where everyone is defined by their psychic ability, Danith has little, and thus is at the opposite end of the social spectrum from T'Ash. But T'Ash refuses to accept her rejection, and sees it as a challenge instead. They are HeartMates, but can T'Ash persuade his beloved to accept her destiny by his side?

My thoughts: I give this book a 4/5, mainly because it is so different from your usual love stories. Ms. Owen's opens the door to a new planet, and new customs, and does it without it being really dumb. That is talent. Danith is a bit of a whiner and doesn't want to give in to her feelings easily. T'Ash has a familiar who is a cat that is really funny. I am curious to see where this series is going.

The Dark Lord by Patricia Simpson

When I read the synopsis off the back of this book I thought "Eh- it will be mediocre", yet I was surprised. This book is better than mediocre, it's great! This book has been sitting on the bookshelf for quite some time and I am sad I didn't read it sooner!

Synopsis (from back of the book): Faye Rae Lambers is caught between two men...

Simeon, debonair and charming, and Michael, street-smart and sarcastic. Simeon thinks Michael is crude and base; Michael thinks Simeon is evil. Really evil.

When Rae's beloved mentor, Michael's father, dies, Rae discovers that he has been consulting a psychic and goes to see her. The psychic insists that the souvenir deck of cards from Rae's Egyptian vacation is actually the Forbidden Tarot, and that one of the men in Rae's life had something to do with her mentor's death. Rae can't believe that- Simeon is far too sophisticated to murder someone, and why would Michael kill his own father.

But the psychic insists that the dark spirit of the Tarot has taken form as one of the men in Rae's life. Rae must figure out whether it is Simeon or Michael before she loses her heart...and possible her life.

My thoughts: This book I rated a 4/5. The reason it did not get a 5/5 was because some of the storyline was really predictable and Rae received a message from her mentor that left clues that were not really elaborated on like they could have been. All in all though this book set up nicely for the next book in the series, The Dark Horse. Also it might be petty but I hated the name Faye Rae, yuck.

Covet by J.R. Ward

This is the first book of Ms. Ward's new series, Fallen Angels. I really liked this book. It has some characters from the BDB series, Marie-Terese and Trez. The story is engaging and fast paced. This story is a great start to a series. The ending of the book left me wanting answers and I can't wait until the next book is out!

Synopsis (from back of book): Redemption isn't is a word Jim Heron knows much about- his specialty is revenge and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins. And failure is not an option.

Vin diPietro has surrendered himself to his business-until fate intervenes in the form of tough-talking, Harley-riding, self-professed savior, and a woman who makes him questions his destiny. With an ancient evil ready to claim him, Vin has to work with a fallen angel not only to win his beloved over...but to redeem his very soul.

My thoughts: Jim is a good guy who can be bad. He has a mysterious past and even more mysterious friends. I can't wait to learn more about him in the next book. Vin is an intriguing character who has everything in life but yet he is very miserable. I loved that he evolved so beautifully in this book. It is very rare that I give a book a 5/5 but this one earned it!!

Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank

This is the first book in the Nightwalkers series. I currently have the second book Gideon on my wish list at goodreads.com, so that should clue you in that this book rocks! I enjoyed the character's, the storyline started out kind of slow but once it picked up it kept my attention, the cover of the book was attractive, and I can't wait to see which direction the series takes.

While writing the synopsis I was asking myself what makes this book any different from the other paranormal romance books out there? I think it is that the author kept the story simple, interesting, and didn't overwhelm the story with unnecessary gibberish. The story is to the point while still allowing some mystery. I found that aspect of the book to be the most refreshing. I recommend reading this book. Now I only help that the next book in the series is every bit as good as this one.

Lover Avenged, by J.R. Ward

This is Ms. Ward's 7th book from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. After reading the 6th book, Lover Enshrined (Phury's story), and not really enjoying it, I was a little hesitant to read this book. But I have followed the series faithfully so I had to give this book a fair shot. J.R. Ward does not disappoint in this book! I rate it a 4/5.

First of all, this book was better than book 6 (thank god) and I would definitely recommend it to a friend. Rhev is a sympath vampire and not actually in the Brotherhood. Rhev is a bad bad boy. He manipulates emotions, owns the club Zero Sum, and is a notorious drug dealer/gangsta type guy. Ehlena is a vampire nurse who is dealing with family drama. This story has many different plot lines going at the same time. There were many things I liked and just one thing I did not like.

Likes: RHEV, enough said. Ehlena was like able and sweet but not spectacular. This book has drama, sex, suspense, romance and intricate plots- whats not to love? This story sets up nicely for John Mathew and Xhex's story which will be book 8- Lover Mine out April 2010. I was happy that in this book it was not all about Mr.X or Mr.O but more about Rhev and Ehlena.

Dislikes: I don't know why this bothers me, but I don't picture Rhev having a Mohawk at all. Actually as I am reading the story I picture Rhev as the actor Maurice Benard who plays Sonny Corinthos on General Hospital, except with lots of tattoos and amethyst eyes.

Sleeping with the Fishes, by Mary Janice Davidson

I have enjoyed Mary Janice Davidsonson's Undead Novels. I had my eye on this book for a while but just wasn't sure if I would like it.

My thoughts: The cover design is attractive and catches the eye. A lot of author's are writing about vampires, werewolf's, Fae, but none are writing about mermaids. I found that aspect of the story to be refreshing. The story was short and kept my attention. What I did not like was the main character, Fred, she is like a cheap knock off of Betsy from the undead series. Also seriously, Fred, that was the best name Ms. Davidson could come up with? Also Fred has green hair (the color of the ocean), which I didn't really like. I was not keen on either of the two leading men in the story. This story had the potential to be so much more. I still would recommend it to paranormal fans, especially if it is a cold and snowy day and they are stuck inside for the afternoon. Overall score 2.5/5

NEW MOON...yes the movie not the book

I must say yes I know I have a book blog but everyone is commenting on the madness that is New Moon, you might have heard of it. I have read all the books in the Twilight series (back to back in like 3 days). They were good and the last book, Breaking Dawn was great. Here are my thoughts on the movie:

Was it better than the first low budget Twilight movie? Yes. Was I glad I went and seen it at the theatres (at matinee price)? Yes. Who had the hottest body? Hands down Taylor. Was I super excited to see Jacob get rid of the hideous wig (eww eww eww)? Hell yes. Overall I really enjoyed the movie. It was way better that the first movie. This movie does follow more true to the book than the previous movie. Sure there were some corny added lines but thankfully none of the, "spider monkey" crap- *cringe*. There were a couple of things that bothered me: Kristen Stewart seemed twitchy throughout the entire movie. While I must confess Bella was not the reason I finished the series, Jacob and Edward were, I thought maybe Kristen would step her game up in this movie...but she didn't. Also I am not sure what the intentions were but the close-ups in the movie were getting out of control. Maybe the director thought to show the emotions more clearly by zooming in to 4 inches from the face...but did he really have to zoom in every time things in the movie got intense? Apparently. I must say go see it and have fun, if for no other reason because you don't want to be the only one on the entire planet who has not seen it ;o)

Some tips for the movie watcher: Don't bring your babies, I can tell you from experiencing nothing is more annoying in a sold out movie theatre than trying to watch Edward or Jacob's every move with a screaming baby as background noise. Get a sitter. Also don't try to "save" 10 seats for your entire family. It's rude. Everyone paid the money and waited an hour in line to get good seats, so don't piss anyone off!

The Darkest Whisper by Gena Showalter

It is no surprise to learn that Gena Showalter is my go-to author. I love her writing style. Her books are awesome! If you have not read a Gena Showalter book and you are a paranormal romance fan, I would highly recommend you do so!

My thoughts: This is the 4Th book in the Lords of the Underworld series. I have been waiting anxiously to read Sabin's story. I liked this book and man it pains me to say it but...I didn't love it. Would I recommend this book to a friend? Yes. Are there better books in the series? Yes. I just thought Sabin to be edgier and rougher. He seemed a little tame, him and his demon both. I am still a fan of Ms. Showalter's and I can't wait for the next book in this series, hopefully it will better.

This book has a little of everything. It touches on many sexual fantasies from readers of Black Lace. This book is steaming hot. I read this book in one day. I think that the fantasies revealed in this book are unique in the fact that they come from normal everyday people. Sure there were sections of this book that I didn't get into at all but there were parts that I reread.

Synopsis (from back of book): What is the most common female sexual fantasy? Why are men in uniform so appealing? What is the sexiest thing a man can do for a woman? Why are forbidden themes such a turn-on?

My thoughts: I did enjoy this book and highly recommend it. The only downside is that some stories are so short that they are only a paragraph in length, I thought they should have been more detailed. Also this book is graphic so please keep it away from your children.

The Last Lover by Laura Van Wormer

This was a pretty good murder mystery and a solid who-done-it. There toward the end things were getting pretty outrageous but I still enjoyed reading this book. The cover is nicely done. I enjoyed the main gal, Sally. Sally is likeble and strong. The men in Sally's life are another story.

My thoughts: I enjoyed the book but did find one fatal flaw. Whoever proofread this book obviously did not know what they are doing! There are typo's all over the place! I am not a grammar freak but they were blatantly obvious. Also this is just a personal thought Laura Van Wormer should drop the "Wormer" part of her name. It reminded me off a procedure done in a vet's clinic. All in all though I would recommend this book to a friend.

Also I am not sure but I think this book might be part of a series.

The Sexiest Dead Man Alive by Jane Blackwood

Jane Blackwood might not be an author you know by name. Actually this is the first book of hers I have ever read but I did enjoy it. This is not a book that is going to change your life or inspire you in some deep way but it was fun, witty, and a good lighthearted read. It starts off interesting and stays that way. This is a perfect read for one of those rainy-cuddle-up-in-bed-and-read days.

Synopsis (from yahoo.com): In this lighthearted romance, a woman accepts a job as the personal chef for a recluse...and discovers her boss is a sexy pop star whom the rest of the world presumes is dead!

My thoughts: Rose is funny and I liked her immediately. She is the type of character most women can identify with. Declan is hot albeit a little stuck on himself (even though he doesn't think so). Rose's best friend is hilarious. I enjoyed the book and this could very well be an author to look out for.

The cover of the book is super cheesy and could have been a gazillion times better. Also the title of this book could have been better. The title makes you think this book is a paranormal romance but it is NOT it is strictly a contemporary romance.

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead

This is the fourth book of Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. I liked it- a lot. The characters are evolving and growing up. Some characters surprise you others let you down but either way you are hooked. I read this book in 2 days. I highly recommend this series.

My thoughts: Well Rose is a kick ass girl. You can not help but like her or want to be like her. Her BFF Lissa is kind of annoying to me. I did like that there were hints that Lissa will step up her attitude (hopefully) and quit being such a baby in the next novel. As far as the relationship between Rose and Demitri you can not help but hurt for Rose, yet still love Demitri even though he is now the enemy (strigoi). I liked the change of pace of this book in the fact that most of the setting is entirely of Rose and whats going on with her. Rose also gets to meet Demitri's family which was cool and gives you insight into Demitir's life. I like Christian (Lissa's boyfriend) more and more with each book. Adrian is still a mystery and I kinda dig him. I would love to learn more about Adrian in the next book. This book definitely ends in a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens next in Rose's world. I only hope Richelle writes fast and the next book in the series does not take a year to come out or disappoint me!!

But seriously WTF did the cover of this book have to do with anything? The girl on the cover is blond like Lissa and does not give off the "Rose" vibe at all, but why would Lissa be on the cover b/c she was a minor player in this book? I know in all my reviews I comment on the book cover but seriously that is what draws the characters for me! I loved the first book cover and that girl was who I imagine perfectly to be Rose! Hopefully we will see that girl again on the next book cover.

This is Book Two of The Black Sun's Daughter series. This book was a good read and I really enjoyed it. Although I still do not understand the Black Sun's Daughter reference. I think I liked this book almost as much as I did the first book in the series (see my other review). I like the writing style which is gritty and a little dark, kind of like Devon Monk's writing. I would definitely recommend this series to a friend.

My thoughts: I loved that Jayné did not have to constantly repeat to the other characters in this book how to correctly pronounce her name like she did in book 1. There was not as much love interest going on but there was a new twist in the romance department which I liked. Don't be confused though because this is not a romance book it is an action/mystery paranormal story. There where some surprising elements to the storyline that I did not see coming. I can't wait to see where this story is headed!!

The Perfect Wife by Victoria Alexander

Oh man you just gotta love a tawdry romance! Sure this book is predictable and smutty but that's half of it's charm. While this is not as good as some of Victoria Alexander's other books it was still good.

Dislikes: The story was really slow at times and could have been a little more exciting. The cover is kind of blah.

Likes: Sabrina is strong and an older woman which I thought was a nice change from a 19 year old virgin leading lady. Earl of Wyldewood is hott. A descent historical romance read.

Belle by Melanie Jackson

This was an interesting and entertaining read. Every once in a while I just get in the mood for a historical romance.

My Thoughts: This book is beginning to end fun. There is romance, adventure, humor and can be read in one sitting on a rainy afternoon. Belle is courageous yet naive all at the same time. Stephan can be dominating and gentle. I would recommend. A good read.

The one complaint I have is of the cover. While reading the book the Belle in my mind did not resemble the girl from the cover. There is nothing interesting about the cover which is boring.

Dragonborn by Jade Lee

I love dragon/fantasy books. Overall this book was good but the cover and the synopsis are a little misleading.

My thoughts: The synopsis and the cover make you think this book is a romance. And it is. Kind of. I could see some romance embedded but to me it was more of a story with sex thrown in. I liked Kiril a little more the Natiya. Not that I disliked her but sometimes I just could not relate to why she was doing certain things. The story was a good read and I would recommend it. Jade Lee did a very nice job of making the story flow and writing a vivid image. I was a little put off by the ending but still glad I read the book.

The Secret Lives of Doctors' Wives by Ann Major

Hmmm. I have mixed feelings about this book. It managed to keep me entertained yet there were times I also wanted to burn it. I am in nursing school to become a registered nurse so anything medical and mystery is interesting to me. The main lady in this story is an RN and I just hope to God I never have a nurse like her taking care of me.

Between his ex-wives, his angry stepchildren and the deep, dirty secrets driving their lives, somebody resorted to murder. And it looks as if Dr. Carver kept the biggest, baddest secrets of all....

My thoughts: Okay where to start? First of all I HATED Rose. She was a horrible choice for a leading lady. She is shallow, selfish, insecure, and idiotic. I found myself more than once while reading this book cursing her for her stupidity. Secondly, Pierce was an ass. Third, Rose has an old flame who becomes the investigator on the case. His name is Michael Nash. I think he is a fool. He pines after Rose who does nothing but think of only herself all the time. Rose has a daughter named Carmen who is a mess. Carmen has a daughter who she doesn't really want. With Rose and Carmen let's just say the apple does not fall far from the tree. I would have liked more insight into Carmen's world though. Now that I've bashed out all the dislikes of the book I will discuss the strong points. This story is like a sick and twisted soap opera. No matter how disgusted with Rose I was, I could not help but want to read more. There are some twists and turns you do not expect at all. Overall this is a strong who-dun it. If you can stomach the nausea Rose may cause the book is good. The cover is interesting and got my attention. I may or may not read another Ann Major book. Only time will tell.

A Taste of Magic by Tracy Madison

I would give this book a 3/5 simply because the story is sweet and a quick read. Honestly though the whole gypsy -magic -love- story thing just really isn't for me. There was one laugh out loud funny moment. This book also has a story that follows it called, A Stroke of Magic. I don't know if I will read that book or not. This book was okay but not stellar.

My thoughts: After reading part 1 I instantly picked up part 2. Yes, these books really are that good. Part 2 continues right where part 1 left off. No jumping around or re-introducing people or re-explaining the story, which was very nice. You get a little more depth of the characters and learn more about them in part 2. The only thing that made me sad was when I had finished the book ;( I sincerely hope that Ms. Smith decides to write more books about The Secret Circle.

Whoever decided to re-release The Secret Circle is a genius. Otherwise I probably would have never read these books.

The Secret Circle (part 1) by L.J. Smith

WOW I loved this book. I can not believe that this was written in the 1990's and I had never heard of it until recently. This writer was writing cool paranormal series before it was actually popular. This is a young adult story that kids of all ages would love. This is part 1 (actually books 1-2, which were re-released) titled The Initiation and The Captive part 1. The second book (re-released books 3-4) The Captive Part 2 and The Power is also amazing.

My Thoughts: I am so glad that I had both books Part 1 and 2 to read because I would have immediately drove to the store to buy it if I had not. Part 1 does start out a little slow but by page 10 I could not put it down.I read through this book all in one sitting. I could not wait to find out what happened next. I could not help but be drawn in to Cassie's world. I related to her, felt sorry for her, got angry with her, but still loved the character. I will definitely be going out and buying up all the L.J. Smith books I can. She is brilliant!!

Sure this is considered a paranormal romance book but there is a real story that flows. There is steamy friction between Ross and Marshall but the best part of the book is Ross' hunt for the killer.

While this book was not as dramatic and compelling as Acheron it is more than worth reading. Once I start one of Sherrilyn's books I just can't put it down.

The Accidental Vampire by Lydsay Sands

I would recommend any story written by Ms. Sands. I have yet to find one that I have not liked. This book makes for a great read on the story rainy days inside ;o)

Eternal Pleasure by Nina Bangs

I have read several Nina Bangs books and liked them. This one was no exception. This book was a quick read and really entertaining. This is the first book of the Gods of The Night. I am looking forward to reading book 2 in this series Eternal Craving.

What really sets this book apart from usual paranormal romance stories is that each of the eleven possess the soul of a dinosaur. I think that is unusual and brilliant. The eleven really do have the soul of a beast. But can the beasts be tamed? The main guy in this story is Ty short for T. Rex. The female in the story Kelly, is strong and descent. Compared to Ty though she is pretty boring. This is definitely a series to read!

The Abstinence Teacher by Tom Perrotta.

I am a huge fan of Tom Perrotta. This story is not an edge of your chair suspense thriller or mystery. What makes his stories so interesting to me is that his characters are ordinary or ordinarily dysfunctional and could be anyone you know. They could be your neighbors, your kid's school teacher, your pastor, the anonymous guy from the grocery store. I really enjoyed Tom's story, Little Children, but I enjoyed this one more. Little Children was made into a stellar movie starring Kate Winslet. I hope the movie exec's make this one into a movie as well. He has an eloquent way of writing so that I can relate to all the character's whether our lives are dramatically different or similar in some ways. If you have not read a Tom Perrotta book I recommend that you do so- today.

Living Dead in Dallas, by Charlaine Harris

Very rarely do I find that I like the second book in a series as much as the first(see other review). Even more rare is that the second book is better than the first, which was the case with this book. I liked it better than the first. A better plot, new characters, and it had funnier moments. I can’t wait to find out what will happen in the 3rd book in this series.

Synopsis (from barnesandnoble.com): When a vampire asks Sookie Stackhouse to use her telepathic skills to find another missing vampire, she agrees under one condition: the bloodsuckers must promise to let the humans go unharmed.

This book shows more insight to the characters. I liked the change of scenery in Dallas- hello small town girl in big city. Things get more complicated- will Sookie stay with Bill now that she knows her boss wants her, or how about the elder vamp who also wants her? You get to meet new paranormal characters such as shape shifters. There are funnier moments- like Sookie dragging an elder (straight) vampire to an orgy where he pretends to be gay. I would definitely recommend this book. I would give it a 4/5. I hope I am not let down by the next book in the series.

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Honestly I almost refused to read this series because the name Sookie is annoying. I know that’s petty but hey don’t judge me ;o) I am glad I picked this book up. The story is interesting and I definitely plan to continue reading the rest of the series. I can see why HBO would like to make a series out of these books and I plan on watching it too.

My summary: Sookie can read minds and has a hard time getting a date. She meets a vampire named Bill and they hit it off. Then people in her small town start dying and she plays detective.

What I liked: That the story was short and entertaining. It was not boring and the plot flowed really nicely. I think Charlaine was very smart to keep this book under 300 pages because I think had it kept going on that I would have lost interest. I like that Sookie can read minds. Bill is the strong quiet types, you gotta love that.

What I did not like: The name *cringe* Sookie. Hideous. That Sookie is 26 (my age) and seems really immature. I hope that changes in the future books. She cries quite a bit in this book but thankfully not as much in the second book in the series, Living Dead in Dallas. Sometimes the southern phrases get on my nerves. I am not discriminating, I am from the South too. I also thought the cover is misleading. The girl is not the vampire but her guy Bill. So why did they do that?

Overall I would give it a 3/5.

I have never read any other books by M.L.N. Hanover but I definitely think this is an author to keep an eye out for. This book was so different than you usual paranormal romance. While there is romance this book actually has a story. I definitely recommend.

What I liked: That this book was a change of pace from your usual paranormal authors like Lora Leigh or Laurell K. Hamilton. The story is fast paced and different . That the story keeps you guessing and makes you want to know more about all of the characters. I would like the next book to feature more of Eric’s secrets. The cover is also very nice.

What I did not like: That I did not understand why the series is called The Black Sun’s Daughter. That made no sense to me what so ever. Also that everyone pronounces Jayné’s name wrong, but she will always mention that they did but will never correct them. That got old and redundant very fast.

All in all I am ready to see if the next story is as good. The next in the series Darker Angels will be out September 29, 2009.

Bengal's Heart by Lora Leigh

I could not wait for this book to come out after reading Tanner’s Scheme (see my other review). Did I think the book was good? Yes. Was it as good as I thought it would be? No.

But when the Breeds are incriminated in a series of violent murders, it's left to Cassa and Cabal to discover the truth before they become prey.

While this book was good I could not help but feel a little let down. I did not like that there was tension between Cabal and Cassa in terms of their past. That was already done in Tanner’s Scheme. Their story was sizzling but not anything new. I was hoping for a fresh perspective in this romance. I mean come on- Cabal was a notorious playboy- he and Tanner used to share their women. Yet he seemed toned down in this book. I just wanted Cabal to be more. Would I recommend this book? Yes. Even despite the romance flaws the story was really good and complicated. I am really hoping Jonas will get his story next! Or maybe Dog. Either way I hope Lora Leigh comes at the next book with a new angle. The conflicted past stories have been done to death.

Although if nothing else the cover design is very nice.

The Harlequin by Laurell K. Hamilton

Don’t hate me, but I am just not that big a fan of Laurell K. Hamilton. I know there are a lot of devoted Anita Blake fans out there but I am just not one of them. This is the fifteenth book of the series and the only two I have managed to read without ditching in the first chapter is Danse Macabre and this one. I will give the next book Blood Noir a shot but don’t really have my hopes up.

Into her world-a world already overflowing with power-have come creatures so feared that powerful, centuries-old vampires refuse to mention their names. It seems to me that all of Hamilton’s stories go in circles and it becomes very redundant. Anita has a conflict and thinks about it, someone else voices her concerns, finally someone acts upon the conflict and round and round it goes. At times while reading this book I found myself liking Anita and at other times I hated her. She is pretty selfish in her relationship with Nathaniel and I kind of hope he goes elsewhere. She is sometimes a ruthless killer and other times very naïve. What can I say, I am just not a fan.
Although I must admit this cover is the best of the series so far- sensual and intriguing.

Dark Embrace by Brenda Joyce

I enjoyed this book. Brenda Joyce has a captivating writing style. The one thing that confused me was on the back of this book it says that this book is the first book of the Rose Trilogy. What it does not tell you is that this book is also the third in the Masters of Time series. So while reading I had to pay extra attention because I had not read the previous Master’s books. My advice is to read the two previous books then this one. I felt like I did not get to fully appreciate all this book had to offer because of that.

Honestly who doesn’t love the alpha male?! This story was captivating, so much so that I read it in one sitting. The ending is intense and surprising. This story is fast paced and a great read. Aidan is a tortured soul and Brie is his redemption. This book is well worth reading.
My only complaint is that while all the books in the Masters Series have some nice eye candy on them- they are all too much the same! I know you should not judge a book by its cover, but sometimes while considering which one to buy I do tend to go for the ones with the most attractive covers. I just hope maybe on the next book of the series they will switch the cover design of the book up a little bit.

Daring Time by Beth Kery

This is the first book of Beth Kery’s book I have read. Also this version of the book I read was the Uncorrected Proofs version. I must admit I left this book sitting on my bookshelf for quite some time. The synopsis made this book sound boring and mundane. While this book is not spectacular, it is worth reading. There are some sizzling scenes and interesting characters.

While my version of the book has a boring plain cover, I am pleased the final product has a scrumptious design. My pet peeves were that the paranormal element wasn’t as strong as it could have been and that I wanted things to heat up between Ryan and Hope a lot faster! I wanted the story line to be quicker and more intense. All in all though I would give this book a 3/5 and I do think Beth Kery is a writer to keep an eye out for.

Shoots to Kill by Kate Collins

After reading Kate's dissappointing book 6 in her flower shop mystery series (see my other review), I was a bit hesitant to read this one. I am happy to report that Kate is back on top with this book. This book was my second favorite book so far. This book is entertaining from the beggining to end. I only hope the next book in this series is as good.

Synopsis (from barnesandnoble.com): Eight years ago, Abby Knight babysat for a problem teen named Elizabeth. Today, Elizabeth's back, with a new name (Libby) and a whole new life (stolen)—namely, one that already belongs to Abby. Libby's even trying to steal Abby's boyfriend, Marco. But imitation really becomes the sincerest form of trouble when Abby finds herself the accused dupe in a bizarre murder plot.

I liked the new nemesis Elizabeth aka Libby in this book. It brought in a fresh perspective which I found very entertaining. It almost seems as if Abby is maturing a little bit and that is a good thing. I am the same age as Abby, 26, and I find myself forgetting that she is supposed to be the same age as me. I always consider her to be younger, but I am glad that she is finally growing up a little bit. I would like her and Marco's romance to bud (pun intended) a little more. Maybe move from a "G" rated romance to a "PG-13".

Girls on Film by Zoey Dean

This is the second book in Zoey Dean’s A-List Novel Series. I enjoyed the first book in the series (see my other review) and I enjoyed this one. I am still a little shocked that this series is considered young adult. I like how Zoey Dean’s characters are so well developed and you relate to all of them in one way or another. I definitely plan on reading the rest of the series.

Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert

This is the first book I have read by Natasha Mostert. It will also probably be my last. It was just too slow for my taste. I wanted more action, suspense, and it is mainly a lot of running in circles. I did enjoy that this book included psychic abilities, but overall this book was just not for me.

The sisters were interesting and I never seen the ending coming. I am not sure if I loved the ending of the book or hated it. The book does get better towards the middle to the end of the book, but the beginning is very slow. Beware though the synopsis makes it seem a lot more dramatic and suspenseful than it really is, maybe I had too high of expectations.

Strange Attractions by Emma Holly

Emma Holly’s books always push the envelope in terms of sexual exploration. You are either a reader that enjoys that or you are not. Strange Attractions is definitely a book the XXX reading fans will enjoy. I like reading about sexual encounters (the hotter the better) but I do also like a story incorporated as well. While this book does not have the best background story it was satisfying enough to justify all the sex. There is male on male, male/female, and a female/female encounter, so a little of everything for different preferences. I like all of Emma’s books I have read so far except for Fairyville, which I could not stand.

Synopsis (from alibris.com): Determined not to repeat her mother's mistakes, high school dropout Charity Wills jumps at the chance to attend college for free. However, she must travel to the estate of a reclusive physicist who likes to play sex games in this new work of erotica from the author of "Personal Assets."

Magic in the Blood by Devon Monk

All I wanna know is where has Devon Monk been hiding all this time? I love her writing style which is gritty, dark, fast paced and sarcastic. I was hooked after reading Magic to the Bone. Rarely does a follow up book even come close to being as good as the first, but in Magic in the Blood, Devon Monk delivers. I love the main character Allie and all her complicated life. I love the unique magic element that is incorporated in these books. Devon Monk creates a genre all her own. These books are a must read. I cannot wait for Magic in the Shadows, which comes out November 3, 2009. I never pre-order but I must admit I am considering it. All the cover art is dark yet attractive. My only complaint is that Devon needs to write faster!!

Deep, Dark, & Dangerous by Jaid Black

I usually like Jaid Blacks books, but found this one to be mediocre. While there were some hot loves scenes the actual story was blah. I did manage to read through the entire book. I also did not realize prior to reading this book that it is book 4 of Jaid’s, Vikings Underground series. Unless you are a diehard Jaid Black fan or just like books that offer sex with no real storyline, I would say skip this one. For me the Vikings voyage began and ended with this story.

A Rose from the Dead by Kate Collins

I just happened to stumble upon Kate Collins Flower Shop Mystery series a while back. Before reading the first book I thought it seemed a little cheesy. But after reading the first book Mum’s the Word, I was hooked. I definately recommend this series. Although, don't let the synopsis trick you into thinking this series is romance. While the main charcter Abby does have a man you will not be reading any steamy love scenes. This series is a light hearted mystery. The series order is-

While the first book is the best of the series book 7 was my second favorite. All of them were stellar books except for this one. I was disappointed in this book. Some of Kate’s books are laugh out loud funny- not this one. Most of the time the books are quick reads and keep me entertained from beginning to end. While reading this book I had to force myself to get through it completely. I almost felt like this book was written by someone else. I am happy to say that Kate is back to her usual engaging writing style in book 7. Honestly, unless you are one of those anal people (like me) who just have to read the books in order I would say skip this one and go straight to book 7. I cannot wait to read book 8 and I hope I am not disappointed. Also I must give props to whoever does the cover artistry for this series. All the covers have been very nicely done.

I think James Patterson is okay although for some reason I absolutely hate his Alex Cross series. With Mr. Patterson's writing I am either totally hooked from the first page or I can not even finish the first chapter. I have never read any other books by Michael Ledwidge.

My Opinion: This book was very good. I liked the hero and his family. The villains could have been described a little more in depth, but this book is not really about them. Michael Bennett is a guy you feel sorry for, at one point in the book I even cried for him. This is definately one of James Pattersons better yet not as widely recognized books. I had never heard of this book until I seen it at a local bookstore. I would definately recommend reading this book. I prepared a comfy spot and read all 310 pages in one sitting. Kudos to these two writers for bringing this touching and entertaining story. I give it a 4/5.

The Good Guy by Dean Koontz

I either love or hate books written by Mr. Koontz. This book I happen to love. It was fast paced, the main guy was relatable to a certain degree, the woman was heroic and gutsy, and the villian is crazy, methodical, and cold blooded. This is one of his books I would definately recommend you to read.

Why I loved this book: Tim is a regular working class guy that is in the wrong place at the wrong time. Most of the time authors manage to hook me in but can not keep my attention. I am pleased to say that this story kept me captivated from page one to the very end. I would give this book a 4/5, it is not perfect but damn near close. The only thing I did not like was the cover. It did not really go with the story at all. Also is it just me or does Dean Koontz writing and story telling style seem to be like a fine wine and get better with age?

I am a sucker for any stories that are about Mary Magdalene. So when my grandma gave me this book I was super stoked. Initially my first impression of this book was that it was somewhat similar to The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. As I continued reading I realized why this book never got as much recognition. While Kathleen McGowan started the writing out to be strong an promising, somewhere by the two-hundredth page the story just kept going on and on and on and on. By the four-hundredth page I was becoming frustrated and was wishing the author would have wrapped up the story chapters ago. While I did finish the book and overall semi-enjoyed it, I still wish it would have ended about two-hundred pages sooner. Had I read this book prior to Dan Brown's I might have enjoyed it more.

This book is part of a series called: The Magdalene Line. For me the line ended with the first one. I would rate this book a 3/5. Although I do give huge props to the designers who managed to use Botticelli, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Poussin on the covers- Brilliant. The artwork is beautiful and whether it is read or not looks stunning on any bookshelf.

Wicked Is the Night by Catherine Mulvany, Wicked or Not?

This is the first book of Catherine Mulvany’s I have ever read. I liked it but did not love it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal.

What I liked: Catherine Mulvany’s writing style is engaging and overall I did like the book. I thought the story of Nevada White was very interesting. Nevada is a girl who escapes a horrible place. She cannot remember her past. She meets ex-race car driver Trick, who offers to let her stay with him and clean a mansion he intends to sell. I really like the name Nevada White. Trick has an eye patch and you gotta love that. While not the most compatible fictional couple, they do have their moments.

What I did not like: When I see the word wicked in a title I think of the book being sinful and naughty- in a good way. While this book was a good read, I do think it was not appropriately title. There was not a whole lot of wickedness going on in this book. I partly blame that on Trick. I like the swoon worthy men of books to be a little more aggressive. What steamy scenes there were are toward the end of the book. I wished the paranormal element would have been introduced sooner, it was like while reading this book I kept waiting for it. When some secrets started to unravel the story fortunately picks up.

While this book could have been more suspenseful, it did keep me entertained all the way through. I will be keeping my eye out for future books by Catherine Mulvany.

Immortals: The Redeeming by Jennifer Ashley

This is the fifth book of The Immortals Series. This series is unique in that each book is written by one of three different authors. They are great writers and I have enjoyed reading their stories. The order of the series:

I have only read books 1-5, but I do recommend them. Also while you could read the stories individually, I would recommend reading them in order. There is a lot going on in this series and it follows a timeline of sorts.

My thoughts: I have been waiting for Tain’s story for a while. He is the conflicted, tortured soul. I really liked this book, but it was not my favorite out of the series. The heat was pretty strong between Tain and Samantha but could have been stronger. I did like the interesting conflict of Tain’s past and Samantha being a demon. I liked the writing style and Jennifer Ashley has a way with descriptive writing that I find very intriguing. I did not like the cover of this book. All the previous books had very nice covers.

Would I recommend this book? Yes I would recommend every book in this series read in order.

Also I read somewhere that this book was nominated for a Prism Award. Congrats to the author!

The A-List is Full of A-holes.

I did not realize prior to buying this book that it’s part of a series for YA’s. This book has sat on my bookshelf for a while now just gathering dust. I finally decided last night to go ahead and read it. The writer's style reminded me of a Jackie Collins for the young adult genre.

Seventeen-year-old Upper East Side blueblood Anna ("pronounced Aaaanah") Percy is on her way to Beverly Hills, California, where she'll live with her estranged dad for the rest of the school year while her mother travels to Europe with a friend. On the plane, Anna drinks too much champagne and gets hit on by record producer Rick Resnick. Luckily Princeton student Ben Birnbaum is there to save her and he invites Anna to famous actor Jackson Sharpe's wedding, where Anna meets the cast of rich and famous characters who are soon to be her classmates at Beverly Hills High.

What I thought: I liked this book. I was surprised that it was way better than I thought it would be. It was a fast and entertaining read. All the girls are grade A bitches (except for Anna, and even that is debatable). This book did seem a little more edgy than some of the YA books I have read- which is a good thing. Zoey Dean managed to create a glimpse into the world of A-list teenagers while making the story somewhat believable. The characters are brats but I felt sorry for most of them. This book is a story of money does not necessarily buy happiness (although, in my opinion it sure helps!). There was a small romance between Anna and Ben. One thing I did not like about this book was the ending. It left me unsatisfied. I guess I will just have to get the second book from the A-list series and see if Anna gets her man, if her sister gets out of rehab, or if she and her father sort out their differences.

Would I recommend this book? Yeah I would. On a scale of 1-5 I would rate this book as a 3.5.

Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy BK 3) by Richelle Mead

This is book 3 of Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy Series. This book was my favorite from the series. I must say I hated the cover design of this book. The girl on the cover is supposed to be Lissa. While the girls eyes are green she is not "beautiful" as Lissa is described in the story.

Why this book was my favorite: Rose and Dimitri’s relationship moves to the next level (finally). Although I wished the love scene had not been merely skimmed over and a tad more detailed. This story is packed full of tension. I loved all the action, fighting, loving, and changing. This book definitely has a darker tone than the previous books with more bloodshed and drama. New friendships are strengthening from unlikely allies. This book has Rose seeing ghosts which always makes for interesting reading. Rose is maturing and becoming a woman, she is finally starting to make decisions concerning her own future. The ending finished on a cliffhanger and I can’t believe I have to wait until August 2009 to read the next in this series!

Frostbite (Vampire Academy Bk 2) by Richelle Mead

This is the second book in Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy Series. It was a quick read and added some new conflicts.

What I thought: I liked this book but did not love it. I was saddened by the lack of Rose and Dimitri time in the book. I liked the change of scenery from the academy to the ski resort. This book does have more action and drama than the first, which I really enjoyed. Lissa has a boyfriend Christian, who is very cool. He has become one of my favorite characters in the story. Also a new character, Adrian, is introduced. He is an enigma and I look forward to learning more about him.

Would I recommend this book to a friend? Yes. Even though I did not love it, it was still a fun and fast read.

Tanner's Scheme by Lora Leigh

Lora Leigh is a great author if you are looking for a hot, sexy story. I have read quite a few of her books, but I haven't read any of the other books from her Feline Breeds Series. After reading this one I immediately searched the internet to find out when the next one will be out (August 2009).

Synopsis (from barnesandnoble.com): A sexy paranormal series set in a world where genetically altered Breeds and the humans who created them sometimes come together in the fiercest of passions. After the Feline Breeds' main base is attacked, Tanner desires revenge. So he kidnaps Scheme Tallant-the daughter of a one-time high-ranking member of the Genetics Council. But when Tanner discovers that Scheme herself is a target of her father's ruthless mission, his vengeance takes a back seat to saving the life of the woman he hopes to claim as his mate.

What I liked about the story: Tanner is so hot! Every girl would be so lucky as to have a man like him. I thought the conflict between Tanner and Scheme’s family made for some interesting (as well as sizzling) tension. This book was good from beginning to end. Even the cover design of this book is interesting and sexy. Tanner’s brother Cabal’s story comes out in August. I am really looking for to reading his story too.

What I did NOT like: I was not fond of Scheme’s name.

Would I recommend this book to a friend? Hell yes. I loved it.

Review of Vampire Academy (BK 1) by Richelle Mead

I could not decide whether I wanted to write a review of the Vampire Academy Series as a whole or each book individually. I decided to write them each separately b/c they are all unique and deserve their own review.

What made me want to read this book? Honestly the cover design of the first book. The first book’s cover design is my favorite. While reading this book, the girl from the cover became “Rose” in my mind.

Synopsis (from barnesandnoble.com): St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school—it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. What I Liked: I love that Rose is so kick ass! I am a sucker for strong female heroines. I thought the whole idea of a school for Vampires was really unique. I like the chemistry between Rose and Dimitri. Their relationship is subtle and not as hot as I normally prefer, but this is a Young Adult novel. I enjoyed the overall writing style. I think I enjoyed the story more because it was written in first person.

What I did NOT like: Lissa, to me was too boring or maybe she just seemed too vulnerable. Not that I hated Lissa, but I didn’t connect to her. I thought the beginning of the story started off kind of slow, but once it got started it was really good. I wished that Dimitri would have been a little more of an alpha male or at least more aggressive, I mean he does need to keep Rose in line.

Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. The story is entertaining and fun. This is not a story I would re-read but it is worth being read at least once.
